I'm in the process of interviewing for a new caretaking job and that means moving in and being in charge there may 5th.

I haven't even seen the apartment. It is in St Paul and I would have an absolutely free two bedroom apartment which square footage is the same size or maybe a little bit bigger. I could have a cat.

I wouldn't have a balcony or an outdoor pool. BUT I will have a pool at St Kates and at the Y.

The neighborhood might not be as nice. It doesn't look bad, but St Paul crime maps are tough to figure out exactly what block you're on.

It's two miles from St Kates.

But maybe they didn't even like us and there's a better applicant.

Ryan does not have a job yet and he did not get the Farmington job. Woodbury has not told him if he can stay. We are not counting on it.

I have a niece now, and her name is Lyla Mavis Mamum. She is half white and half Bengladeshi, meaning unspeakably cute!

the goings on of this week

Jan. 19th, 2009 | 08:09 pm
music: owen

I had an eventful week, the first one in awhile that seemed full. All of my weeks are full, because I am constantly working, schooling, getting stressed. But this week was good because it was full of working and schooling, but also days off, time in bed, actually seeing friends, seeing family, good food, good (and terrible) beer, discovering jameson and ginger ale, and discovering twitter.

Monday: Went to my first day of class, physical geology, worked at Luxton, grilled cheese, going to the CC Club with Liz and Donovan and somehow us going through 3 pitchers of beer. Being really drunk and eating topperstix and watching Fred/Undressed.

Tuesday: Went to work, first choir rehersal, joined the madrigal ensemble.

Wednesday: Second day of class, didn't make it to pilates because there was NO PARKING, worked at Luxton.

Thursday: Worked at the Y, Luxton was canceled!!!!!!!!!! Hung out with Ryan and had a merry time.

Friday: Worked at the Y, toured and talked to a St Kates counselor, began application process. Went to "Shamrocks" with Ryan and Greg, a bar on W 7th and sat through "Chronic" the worst cover band ever because it was loud and their version of taking it down a notch was playing "Shine" by Collective Soul. Shoot me please! Had a good burger and a couple of pints of Harp.

Saturday: Worked on college application, actually had a really good talk with Emily (my soon to be sister in law), and did a food tasting for the wedding reception with Mom, Danny, Dan, Jill, Ryan and me. Then we went to Moe's and I had that amazing red pepper dip again.

Sunday: Went to church, bought .90 candle holders at World Market (which is closing. WHY?!?!?!) for the wedding, cleaned the buildings, then went to Luce with Chris and Kristina who are Ryan's college friends who I love, then went to 3Rock for $2 mystery beer night. Greg then met us there. Here is the rainbow of beers we were fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to sample: Snow Cougar, Corsairs Orange Squeeze, Old Milwaukee, Cold Spring, Woodchuck Aged Oak, Lucky, Furthermore Pepper, Furthermore Proper, Bud Light Lime, Blackthorn Cider, Beer 30 Light, Kokanee Glacier Beer, and Bud American Ale. Also discovered the TV show Gaki http://www.hulu.com/watch/49359/gaki-episode-1 which is really fucked up.

Monday: Had an ikea trip with Liz and did not spend too much! Went to Chipolte and David's Bridal, had a battle of the dresses, and Liz was the first bridesmaid to try on the bridesmaid dress, and it looked cute and sassy. Then we picked up City and Colour tix (me and Danny are going Friday) at the Loring Pasta Bar. I got a much needed hair cut and brow wax, worked on homework, made a bomb panini sandwich, and now me and Ryan are going to practice madrigals!

I don't know why I feel the need to give a blow by blow of the week, it's unlike me, but why not huh?

new years shmew years

Jan. 4th, 2009 | 08:51 am

new years resolutions are stupid! my goals are the same as always: get good grades, do what i want, no stress, no fear.

my new years eve was FUN - we hung out with chris and kristina darnell along with charles and lisa and one of kristina's friends from the library. got drunk completely from champagne - took some killer portraits of kristina and chris, all of which looked ridiculous. looked at their wedding albums and talked about female dictator names for their new cat. listened to TERRIBLE music until me and ryan discovered they had both "rumors" by fleetwood mac and "team boo" by mates of state on record. SOLVED.

i am going to YIG this week (Youth in Government) as an advisor. so for four days i will be living in the minneapolis hilton, dressing biz caj, and living off of skyway food. my job will be teaching a group of eighth graders about all aspects of the legislature, court systems, cabinets, lobbyists, and the media. i'm really excited because i've always wanted to go as an advisor. (YIG is a geeky side of me that is only beaten by the weekend i went to german camp)

my wedding is in a little over eight months. i've started to buy the first crap - programs, bubbles, little easels for the place cards, and necklaces for the ladiez in the wedding. i have a church, a reception site, a photographer, a dj, a honeymoon, a choir, marraige counseling, an organist, a florist . . . only a million more things to go.

i had an discussion with my aunt about if i was keeping my last name (which i'm not). she was like "well, thats one part of you that isn't feminist". ARGH! my last name is smith, ok! not something cool like elton, harrigan, axt, szczech, motari, hainsworth . . . it's smith. and i know johnson is also the most common name on the planet, but at least it will be a change and i get to rework my signature. i have a brother to carry on the smith name along with a hundred million other people around the world. some people have really deep reasons for changing or not changing their name. my reason is that i belong to a facebook group of emily smiths that has 350 members and i want to write emily johnson down.

just a rant!

i am looking forward to winter and the "holidays" quite a lot. i like getting cozy and singing carols and remembering how much i love everybody. in the winter time my hands become so dry they get these tiny cracks in them and they randomly begin to bleed. and mittens don't help.

last friday i went on a bar crawl in downtown minneapolis and got more drunk than i would've cared to be but i had a really good time dancing (i don't dance when i know what the fuck is going on). ryan and i are somewhat of karaoke celebrities now too because we sing cute songs together like "rock with you" by mj and "love me do" together. this is the extent of our nightlife. we have been hanging out a lot with other couples because we have fun together. and also i am forming bonds with some of ryan's friends because they actually talk to me know, two and a half years later. but then again ryan's friends give a lot more of a shit about me than people who should.

what can you do? i only talk to one of my "bridesmaids" on a regular basis. she is the one 500 miles away. one of the other ones is probably getting abused.

sometimes i think i should've went to college in a dorm because then i'd have more people. i talked to tina a few weeks ago and we haven't spoken since. i miss people like her.

the minneapolis park and recreation board is making our non-profit agency pay something like 30,000 dollars by january 1st to stay there and use their rooms to teach those kids how to read and write and count. we might have to go. what are those kids going to do they are going to slide further and further down and be lost and in poverty not knowing about their rights as u.s. citizens and raising another generation in that dump. i'm getting very upset about this because where else can they go what else can they do who will teach them?

the third camp director quit in three years.
hm, what else is new.

i am whiny, but i finally got my own desk and netflix!

I am voting for Barack Obama tomorrow because he is a hero.

He is experienced enough - and does not have the experience of becoming corrupt with power and money from Washington. Joe Biden also has great experience to bring to the table.

Barack Obama is not "redistributing the wealth" he is only making it easier for people to go to school, get health care, and do more than just barely make it.

Barack Obama has the experience of being a community organizer - which is exactly who we need to rise up against the leaders we have now who want to repeal Roe Vs. Wade, who are against gay marriage, equal pay for women and men, and who want to sink us even further in to this war and to our national debt.

Hillary Clinton was a good candidate for president too - and many people whom I personally know were for her. BUT THE FACT IS, FOR EACH PERSON WHO DOES NOT VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA, THAT IS ONE LESS VOTE THAT JOHN MCCAIN NEEDS TO WIN. I know Hillary will have her place in the White House because Barack Obama and everyone else holds her with such high regard.

If Barack Obama wins this election, we have a future of HOPE!
Please, go out and vote tomorrow. If Minnesota votes for McCain, we have lost the election.

hello livejournal-

it's been awhile, but i'm still around and miss blogging. my surroundings: red green show on tv, ryan chattering, danny chattering, erik root watching youtube really loud. we just got done watching hilarious videos.

a couple of hours ago, me, ryan, and erik started playing the michael phelps drinking game. we are watching the olympics and whenever we hear "michael phelps" "michael" "phelps" or see any combinations of those words on the screen, we take a drink.

today i bought ryan a wedding ring! and some cute coasters and chop sticks at cost plus world market.

my grandma is doing better and might be going home. not sure if i support that or what.

i've been stressed about school - - - everyone my age is graduating this coming may. it's frusterating. but by the time i'm done i might have 2 degrees!

today i played guitar hero, met the vp of borders, played bingo with a bunch of kids, went to a banquet at the hilton, and our oven started on fire. ryan poured water on an electrical fire in the oven. i hope i don't die in my sleep from carbon monoxide or my bed starting on fire with no fire extinguisher or renter's insurance.
